Secondary Scripture Memory:

Dear Parents,

Scripture memory is an important piece to your student’s growth and development here at Bethany Academy. We’d like to take this opportunity to let you know how Scripture memory will work for grades 7-12 for the 2008-2009 school year.

Each month a passage of Scripture is required to be memorized as part of the student’s English grade. We will begin in October with Romans 12:1-2. November will continue on from there, adding vv. 3-5, making the passage to memorize Romans 12:1-5. December will continue on from where November left off, making the passage to memorize Romans 12:1-8. Each month your student will need to memorize a few new verses while remembering the previous month’s verses as well. By the end of the school year, your student will have memorized Romans 12 in its entirety. Our goal is for your student to create a “brain tattoo” of Scripture and hide it in their hearts rather than merely to “remember for the moment, forget for the future”.

To help you with the memorization, we have put the entire schedule for the year on Edline for you to download as you need to. If your student would like to memorize the entire passage early, that is great! However, your student will still be expected to say or write the required Scripture for each month in order to participate successfully in the graded monthly Scripture quiz.

We appreciate your partnership as we continue to raise the bar to challenge your students towards excellence and leadership with a heart that seeks after God’s own.

Sincerely,

Miss Clark and Mr. Merry

Fundraising Awareness Week – Day 1; 3-Point Club

December 3, 2007

Online opportunities:

We are excited to unveil some new fundraising opportunites here at Bethany Academy. Click here to view a page of our new online catalog highlighting these opportunities through GoodSearch.com, GoodShop.com, Amazon.com and BestBuy.com. When you make purchases or use these sites the funds raised for Bethany come through donations given by the companies and not as a cost to you. You will find instructions next to each item in the catalog on how to implement these shopping sites. The full catalog of fundraising opportunities will be available online at the end of the week.

As you do your online shopping this holiday season and beyond, please use the links through the catalog to earn money for Bethany.

These fundraising opportunities are for our Bethany community but are also for anyone who is willing to use Bethany as their non-profit organization of choice. Consider helping your parents or siblings get set up for Goodsearch.com or get them a Target Red Card that has Bethany as their school choice. The more people involved the more our profits will be. Little things add up to a lot, so thanks in advance for your participation!

Contact Trudi Whitson at development@bethanyacademy.org with any questions.

3 Point Club

During the 2007-2008 basketball season, every 3 point shot made by the girls and boys Varsity teams could mean more dollars for the future success of our sports programs here at Bethany Academy. Click on the link below to find out how you can get involved.

Worship Night rescheduled; Girl’s Basketball; Music Lessons

October 17, 2007

The all-school Worship Night planned for Friday, October 26th has been rescheduled . . . . . The new date for the event is Sunday, December 9, at 7:00pm in the chapel at Bethany Academy.  Please come out and enjoy an evening of praise and worship led by Jon Russell and the Bethany Academy Worship Arts class followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments. All students and families are welcome.

 Girl’s Basketball

Parents of 5th-8th grade girls,

Due to lower numbers of girls planning to play basketball for the 2007-08 season, some changes to the team structures will be necessary.  This is an unusual situation for the Academy but we believe this decision is necessary to continue to build a quality basketball program for the future.

*the 5th graders will form the 5th-6th grade team (with help from the 6th  graders as needed).

*the 6th-7th graders will be combined to form the 7th-8th grade team.

*the 8th graders will all move up to the JV/Varsity teams.

Please be mindful of these changes as game schedules are read and arrangements are made throughout the season for your basketball players.  We appreciate your understanding in this situation and look forward to the opportunity to work with your children.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact:

Robin Sovine, Girls Varsity Coach or Jeff Ray, Athletic Director  Thank you!

             Private Music Lessons

Private music lessons will be offered after school and evenings here at Bethany Academy starting the week of October 22nd. Lessons are available in the following areas:  guitar, bass, piano, keyboards, saxophone, and music theory.

The teacher is Mr. Mark Arneson from Minnetonka.  Mr. Arneson has taught in various venues in the Cities, including North Central University, Simley High School, Evans Music, and Hosanna Lutheran Church in Lakeville in the Music Academy.

He is also an adjunct player with the Minnesota Orchestra and has played in countless bands in Minneapolis as well as in Colorado and Nevada.  Some of the local musicians he has played with include Ricky Peterson (keyboardist for John Mayer), Bobby Vandrell (drummer for Bonnie Raitt), Jason Peterson (saxophonist for Michael Bolton), Margaret Cox (singer with Prince), Debbie Duncan, Linda Peterson, Gwen Matthews, Sara Renner and many others.  He has ministered at multiple churches in the Cities including Woodland Hills, Grace Church of Eden Prairie, Calvary Baptist, and Hosanna Lutheran in Lakeville with Jon Russell and Jane Allison.

Mark’s teaching will have an emphasis on the spiritual aspects of music and musicianship as well as the technical and academic elements of musical training and he will use worship music throughout his curriculum. For more information on lessons and available times contact Mark at 952-546-1969 to secure a spot for the fall term.
