All School Chapel Friday, 10/23; MN Flu Line

October 22, 2009 by kkasperekba

SPECIAL ALL SCHOOL (K-12)CHAPEL scheduled this Friday,October 23rd

Last year, Jeff Warner of ULTIMATE STRENGTH MINISTRIES shared in what became called “one of the most energized Chapels ever!”  Students witnessed phone books being torn in half, bats being broken with bare hands, bricks smashed, and a speaker with a very tender heart ultimately sharing about the love of Jesus.   Jeff has a gift for grabbing your attention with his strength and God given abilities while then sharing about the love of Christ in the Gospel.

We are fortunate to have Jeff Warner return to again amaze us with his strength as he shares from his heart, concluding a great Spiritual Emphasis week here at Bethany Academy.  You won’t want to miss it!  Here are the details:

WHAT:   Jeff Warner of Ultimate Strength Ministries Chapel speaker

WHEN:   Friday, October 23rd

TIME:  11:35-12:30 during secondary Chapel time

WHERE:  We will be meeting as an entire student body (K-12) in the gym to allow for some of the craziness of Jeff’s displays of strength.

Parents, please join us! There will be plenty of space so feel free to bring any siblings as well.    Come and be amazed!

News Release

Minnesota FluLine to offer support and treatment options for people with possible symptoms of influenza
Minnesotans with flu symptoms can call toll-free line at 1-866-259-4655

A new phone-based service is now available for Minnesotans who think they may have the flu.
Beginning today, people with possible flu symptoms can call the Minnesota FluLine (MN FluLine) at 1-866-259-4655 for information and treatment options. Professionals will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. People with limited English skills will be connected with an interpreter. There is no charge for the call.
Callers with flu symptoms will be connected with a participating nurse at MN FluLine, or a nurse at a triage line operated by their own provider network or health plan. The nurses will evaluate the health concerns of callers and discuss treatment options, using consistent criteria to determine which treatment option is most appropriate for each individual.
Possible treatment options can include rest and fluids at home, a prescription for an antiviral medication, or medical evaluation in a clinic or hospital.
FluLine was developed in response to the first global influenza pandemic in over 40 years. Officials are concerned that the pandemic could overwhelm the health care system, and they believe that FluLine can reduce some of the demands on the system.
FluLine is also expected to help decrease the spread of the flu. By providing assistance over the phone, the new service is expected to limit the number of potentially infectious people who gather in emergency rooms, urgent care centers and clinics.
“We have been concerned that this flu season could place a huge burden on our health care system,” said Dr. Sanne Magnan, Minnesota Commissioner of Health. “By providing support and treatment options to people over the phone, we hope this new service will allow our health care providers and facilities to focus on those people who most need their attention.”
MN FluLine is the first influenza triage line in the country providing statewide reach and the option of prescribing anti-virals drugs under standing orders from a physician. It is a unique public-private partnership involving the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), the Minnesota Hospital Association, the Minnesota Council of Health Plans, health care providers, local health departments, and the Children’s Physician Network (CPN). CPN is responsible for the actual operation of FluLine. The service was developed with input and advice from a number of other partners, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“This unprecedented collaboration means that Minnesotans with flu-like symptoms have another tool in their tool kit to fight the flu – a place to have questions answered about their illness and be evaluated for possible treatment,” said Dr. Aaron DeVries, medical epidemiologist at MDH. “We’re grateful to have the support of so many partners in making the FluLine available to the people of our state.”
The Minnesota FluLine was created specifically to meet the needs of people with possible symptoms of the flu. By definition, those symptoms include a fever of 100 degrees or more, along with a cough or sore throat. Flu symptoms can also include runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and/or fatigue. In some cases, symptoms of novel H1N1 influenza can also include vomiting and diarrhea in addition to respiratory symptoms.
In most cases, people can recover from the flu at home without needing to visit a health care provider. Those who may be at highest risk for complications from the flu include children under two years of age, people 65 years of age or older, pregnant women, and people with underlying medical conditions.
Health officials continue to emphasize prevention measures as the first line of defense against the flu: stay home if you’re sick with a flu-like illness, cover your coughs and sneezes with a sleeve or a tissue, and wash your hands frequently.
For most people, staying home when they are sick means staying home from work or school, and avoiding other locations where they could expose others to the flu, until at least 24 hours after their fever resolves, without the aid of medications like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. People are being encouraged to get vaccinated now against seasonal flu, and get the H1N1 vaccine as it becomes available. The H1N1 vaccine will be an extremely valuable tool for preventing infection.
People who need information about the flu, but do not have symptoms, are encouraged to visit the flu information page on the MDH Web site at www.mdhflu.com <http://www.mdhflu.com/> . The Web site offers a wide range of information and resources, including an interactive flu shot clinic finder.

Letter from Bryan Moak of Bloomington Baptist Church:

It is a sad reality that most churches in the United States are not praying churches. On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23 & 24, we have the glorious opportunity for our church to not only take part in our mission statement of being “A house of prayer for all people”, but to encourage people from churches around our region to take seriously this call to prayer, and to increase our effectiveness in prayer.

On Friday evening, the conference begins at 7pm with worship led by our BBC praise team and joined by Mark Arneson and Jane Allison.  If you’ve ever praised the Lord accompanied by Mark and Jane you KNOW  it’s going to be a great night! Ben Patterson has a message for us entitled “Humble Prayer”, and Dana Olson will close the evening leading us in  a concert of prayer.

On Saturday morning at 9am, we will begin with a session by Dr. Bakke entitled “Desperate Prayer”.  This will be followed by 2 breakout sessions that are sure to help spur us on the greater prayer.

You will be able to choose from these 8 topics:

1.Becoming a Praying Church – Led by Dana Olson

2.Taking Prayer to the Marketplace – Led by Mark Peterson (Director of Prayer Transformation Ministries)

3.Transforming Communities Through Prayer – Led by Carol Madison

4. Igniting a Passion for Prayer in Youth – Led by Glenn Olson, long time youth pastor in the Evangelical Free denomination

5.Arise, Cry Out in Prayer for Children – Led by Sue Pilon of Moms in Touch

6. Prayer Journeys Throughout the Earth/Prayer for Pastors – Led by Barb and Dennis Erickson from Prayer First (Pastor Bryan went to Senegal with them)

7. A Life of Intercession – Led by Madan Valvi

8. Evangelism Praying – Led by Marian Bartels who works with Evelyn Christiansen’s prayer ministry

The conference will close with a session by Ben Patterson entitled “Hope In Prayer”. We will be done at 4pm, and it is our belief that we will leave empowered in a fresh and exciting way to increase our praying for the sake of God’s Kingdom!

Friday, from 9am-4pm we will offer a pre-conference for pastors and leaders.  David Olson, author of the book, “The American Church in Crisis”, will speak on the status of the church in America.  Dr. Bakke will speak on the history of the American church, specifically focusing on the history of revival.  Ben Patterson will give us a picture of the American pastor.  The day will close with a panel discussion with all three men, and Dana Olson moderating.

You are welcomed to register for the pre-conference on Friday, but specifically, we want to encourage you to come to the main conference beginning Friday night.  The cost of the pre-conference is $25 and the main conference is $49.  You can attend both for $65.  Lunch is included on both Friday and Saturday, and a continental breakfast will also be provided both mornings.  Would you please seriously consider registering for the conference.?  Who knows what God might do in the months to come as we focus in this intentional way in becoming more and more, a praying church!
