Seeking Host Family for 7th Grader from Korea, Save the date for Back-to-School Parties!

July 8, 2009 by kkasperekba

Host Family Needed

Please contact Kelli Kasperek at 952-861-8686 x-111 if you have an interest in hosting a 7th grade boy from Korea for the 2009-2010 school year.

Hosting a student from another country allows your family the opportunity to be missionaries without leaving the comfort of your home. This is a 9 month commitment that is often referred to as life-changing on the part of the host family and the students involved. Please prayerfully consider opening up your hearts and your home to John Kim of South Korea.

Back To School Parties!

It’s too early to be thinking about back to school, but not too early to save the dates for our back to school parties! These will be evening events with more details to follow in your Back to School packet due to arrive at the end of July.

Monday, August 24- High School (9-12 grade) party at the Flom’s Home

Tuesday, August 25- Junior High (7&8 grade) party at the Nieuwsma’s Home

Seeking New Board Members

July 6, 2009 by kkasperekba

Board Members Needed

Over the past several months we have been informing you that we are looking for additional board members because we were losing two members due to term limits.  That has now become a reality. At the June board meeting, Jim Moe and Glenn Hofer fulfilled their maximum terms permitted under our Policy Governance. We are back down to five members with two more members scheduled to leave next June.  The maximum board size is nine and at the very least we need to add two new members to replace those who can no longer serve.  We are asking that you prayerfully consider serving on the Bethany Academy School Board.  If you have any questions on the Board or what is required to become a member you can contact me at (952) 881-6081 or jjrobertson@hirep.net.

We also extend our thanks to Jim Moe and Glenn Hofer for their 6 years of service on the board.  Jim was a driving force in getting our Policy Governance Model off the ground and keeping us accountable for following those policies.  As Secretary, Jim recorded all the motions, votes and action items and made sure the monthly minutes and Policy Governance Manual were up to date.  Glenn served on the Joint Building Committee and was the official timekeeper of the board meetings making sure we stayed on subject and time.  Glenn was a steady hand on the board always bringing us back to what was important.  Most importantly, both Jim and Glenn are godly men who always sought what was best for Bethany Academy instead of what might be better for them personally.

Both Jim and Glenn gave sacrificially of their time and talents and they will be missed.  If you see Jim or Glenn make sure you thank them for their service.

Global Day of Prayer- May 31st

This has never happened before! Never has there been a global prayer movement that has encompassed the entire world. But this Sunday, May 31, every nation of the world will join in prayer together–for the Glory of Christ! It is confirmed that all 220 nations will have believers gathered for the Global Day of Prayer, some of them doing so at great personal risk to their lives and families.

We have the opportunity to be a part of this historic day, from the rising to the setting of the sun around the time zones. Here in Minneapolis/St. Paul, we will gather to seek God at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The youth will come at 4:15 p.m., and the rest of us will join them at 5:30. Heart of the City Band, hip-hop artist Xross, and the Teen Challenge Choir will lead us in worship.

With repentance and prayer, we will ask God to glorify Jesus and pour out His Holy Spirit on our city like He did in Jerusalem in Acts 2. Then, we will commit ourselves to fill North Minneapolis streets with the presence of the Lord in the “90 Days of Blessing.”

It is not too late to join us on Sunday evening. For more information, check out GlobalDayofPrayerMN.com today.

And, most importantly, PRAY. Pursue God for all of these and more. There is a grass-roots movement of the Lord taking shape! History may hang in the balance. Don’t miss it!

Dr. Bob Bakke

North America Director and Minnesota Director for Global Day of Prayer

Sr. Teaching Pastor, Bloomington Baptist Church

No Hot Lunch or Milk available next week.

Hello Bethany Family!

We would like to take this opportunity to recognize some of our own community members and some great things that are happening among our staff and former staff.

First, we would like to congratulate Dr. Jesse Hinrichs on the successful defense of his doctoral dissertation from Bethel University this month!  Way to go, Dr. Hinrichs!!

A Masters of Arts in Education from St. Mary’s University was awarded to Mr. Chad Peters in April.  We have yet one more Master Teacher on staff at Bethany Academy.  Kudos, Chad!

Gabriel Thomas Dahlen was born to Mrs. Laurie Dahlen and her husband Steve (BA graduate and son of Mrs. Bonnie Dahlen) on April 24 at 11:55 PM.  He weighed 8 lb. 15.8 oz. and was 20 ¾” long.  He is adorable and a true blessing from God!  Congratulations!

Miss Benita Pfeiffer will be a June bride this summer! We will be welcoming her back in the fall as Mrs. Moritz. Best wishes and congratulations to you and Brent!
